The one DTA sell ? I'd be loathe to recommend anything else that I used previously, as I think my last outing would have been on Windows 7. But I've used cheap ones too, and more expensive ones and had good luck. But as you're having problems, I think the safest option would be to use what DTA recom...

I would say almost certainly, no. The firmware is not the problem

Do you have suitable drivers for the usb-serial cable ?

Is it showing ok in device manager ?

crank/cam oscilloscope. Ideally a real scope, but DTA has it's own scope. I just never know how to interpret it, but Alex from DTA does.

If it's direct serial, the laptop should only be on COM1 as that would be dictated by hardware, and likewise the DTA software should be set to COM1. So the next question....what cable are you using, and is it correct ? Very old, but still valid ( doesn't include the flash programming switch, but not...
