Had a productive weekend working on both dashboard and button panels.

Whilst I was there to have button panels cut, I also asked if it was possible to have a test piece cut for the fascia of my dash. We used a 3mm piece of scrap plastic just to make sure it fit, and after a small amount of tweaking it did so.

Next weekend I hope to have the carbon fibre cut for real. I'm pretty pleased with how it has come out, and for a proof of concept / prototype it'll work just fine in the car.

This evening however I fired up Fusion again to have a play around with the enclosure and fascia coming up with the following:

A very similar shape, slightly larger radiuses at the top, and I've incorporated a small sun-visor too. Not that this is necessary given the screen is very bright, but I think it looks neater.

I threw together some small brackets in fusion as well which will help mount the thing in the car, I'll get those cut this weekend as well.

I recently bought a couple of new tools for my 'workshop' in the shape of a 3D printer and desktop CNC router. It has taken me a while to get to grips with operating both machines, but I seem to be at a point where I can get repeatable results and am starting to learn the ins and outs of it all.

Some tweaks are needed to make it "perfect" but I'm really happy with how it's looking now and can't wait to get it working in the car. Speaking of which, I've now completed 99% of the chassis wiring harness and am about to move onto the engine side of things. Currently setting money aside to sort out the temperature and pressure sensors I want to run.

As always, really enjoying the process of making.

Another project I've been working on is a button panel for my steering wheel. I finally got it labelled and wired up a couple of weeks ago. The labelling is actually a print onto the face of the carbon fibre (no comments on my label orientation, please, ha!).

The panel is 3mm carbon fibre, and makes use of eight Otto P9 buttons, a couple of toggle switches, along with some Raychem and SOURIAU goodies. I couldn't justify the cost of boots for all the switches so it's not as tidy as I'd like, but it's all secure and working.

I got it wired into the car, and it's great to hear it clicking relays! Hopefully soon the relays will spring things into life.
