Re: 65 beetle turbo
M16!, you are going to need 1000bhp to move all that weight, but I don't know drag cars. I'd imagine your target weight around 800kg?
Re: 65 beetle turbo
It will be about 900kg but that's still over 1000bhp/ton lol

Weight is important of course.Rob Stevens wrote:M16!, you are going to need 1000bhp to move all that weight, but I don't know drag cars. I'd imagine your target weight around 800kg?
But you have to consider, that launching on a glued drag strip, is so so brutal compared to any other surface.
I can get my car to do 60ft in 1.5s at Santa Pod. Probably could get into the 1.4 range if I pushed harder.
I'm sure this Beetle will do even better than that.
Such a launch is basically dump the clutch at 5-7000rpm and hang on. And it will just grip with very little wheelspin.
it is so so different to a normal surface regardless of tyres, and is very very brutal.
Re: 65 beetle turbo
that's 100% correct I will be aiming for 1.3 60ft with at least 30lbs of boost when the car is dialled in. The forces on launch are massive ive seen plenty of fast road cars smash drive trains at santa pod
Re: 65 beetle turbo
a few re-enforcements going in place
so the rear end no longer comes off its part of the cage and the brackets have been manned up

Re: 65 beetle turbo
After seeing a road legal full steel beetle run an 11.4 yesterday that was only 1776cc N/A ive been inspired. So more changes I've been very inspired by petes car, so I'm going to build a strut front end, I'm using a Boxster front end as the parts are nearly the same as the 996 rear end I have used and are very strong. I will making the whole front end now connecting to the cage. The shocks is the only thing I haven't got a plan for yet. But I'm sure somthing will pop into my silly brain soon
Picked this up today

Re: 65 beetle turbo
so the shocks came today and they are a bit sorter so that's good also slightly wider so I need to machine the hub carrier out to 55mm as its only 51mm so Cayman shocks don't fit a Boxster lol but im pleased so far how its worked out, thinking of fitting the dry sump tank, and battery at the front and making a fuel cell up to fit nicely
little bit more finalised a bit more braketry, I had some spare brackets so I've welded them on for dyno work to strap the car down.
Hopefully the tubing will come this week so I can start the induction
cheers Andy

Great work.
I can see a huge wheel spacer on the engine....but what's that on top of it ?
