Stick the receiver where the sun shines ? lol

I assume most of the receivers places use are waterproof ? I've used my VBox one on the roof when it's wet and it seems to survive ok...although they never really look waterproof as such.

The issue with putting it on the roof for us is not just whether it's waterproof, but whether it's certified for IP67 resistance to tree branches...

I've various aerials....

Dashcam has a GPS aerial, the lead is very short. So with the dashcam central in the car and the aerial stuck close buy on the aluminium camera mount....signal is very poor. That's maybe 6-8" below the roof. But it's probably just a crap setup, as even when I had it in my van on the windscreen...signal wouldnt always have been that good.

VBox, with aerial on the roof, signal is generally decent. With that same aerial inside the car, or just stuck to the cage somewhere in the car ( when not really in use, it's magnetic base aerial ) again, signal is pretty poor.

Plex Dash, this is stuck to the metal dashboard, central to the base of the windscreen. For most part it gets a pretty good signal there. It only had a short lead so wouldnt stretch to the roof even if I'd wanted lol.

Either Vbox on the roof or Plex on the dash/windscreen...in areas with tree cover signal quality is compromised and it does affect readings. That's without trees physically whacking them !

So do try and give the device a good clear view of the sky as much as possible, and dont have it shielded by metal as it does seem to affect signal. ie dont stick it to the underside of the roof as if sticking them to the inside of the cage in a similar location is anything to go by, it does really hurt the signal

Be even worse with our roof given it has the scoops up there so more than one skin, base of the dashboard is easiest and might get a decent signal as the window is fairly sloped but with tree cover, etc, and an aluminium dash straight below it too might cause issues!

Might stick it in the dashboard for now and it that doesn't works see if I can put it in the back of one of the mirror casings (although, again....trees...)

What about on the roof...but with some sort of hard perspex type cover ? Even a small bonnet scoop type of thing would cover it and not look too out of place ?

It does seem mostly metal coverings that affect the signal.

Actually I could probably fit it in one of the rear wing end plates if I made a bolt on plastic bit behind one of the wing mounts (so it doesn't get whacked)
