DTA minature "Knobs" or "Dyno" boxes

Post by mefmotorsport »

As per the other thread, after somebody asked, I have decided to make up some miniature knobs boxes, small enough to be useable and neat enough to fix to the dash etc....

I was thinking of using a box about 60mm square. If anyone is interested please contact me, not sure of the price as yet but it won't be too expensive!

Martin - I am down.

Email me what I need to send if you don't want to announce a price or whatever

I started to make one but lost interest. I was thinking the best / most reliable way would be to print up a pcb... but whatever you plan to make is interesting!

I'm down too, but just waiting on some info from MarcoV6T as I'm using one of his displays and may need to work one around that.

OK, here's the first example, this one is 2.5" square, I can add the re-flash switch if that's what people want? I would put the re-flash switch on the side near where the lead comes out. I may not use these switches for future versions as they are a bit bulky. Maybe a rectangular box would suit better? Where's best for the lead to come out, top/bottom/side? It could be a bit smaller if I went for small switches, these are 17mm diameter on the front bezel.

What do you think?

I havn't labelled it up yes as my Dymo machine has gone a bit iffy!

Thats awesome Martin. I think just as it is! Plenty small and plenty of room on the buttons.

So how does it function exactly? Like say I am tuning fuel - what would I be doing?

Definitely down for two units!

With your DTASwin in "real time mapping" make changes to the cell that you're on with "Advance" or "Fuel" and press the "Save" button. Other buttons switch on/off "Knobs" and "stop/start" engine. The far end has the normal 15 pin connector but with 2 leads coming out, one for the box and the other goes to your PC. Use your normal USB serial adaptor. both leads around 2m long.

As far as price is concerned, I normally charge £175 for a standard Dyno box (I think DTA charge something like £195 + 20% VAT), I think these will be priced at £150.

I'll make some small labels and see how it looks, I have now fitted the re-flash switch on the top edge alongside the cable entry grommet.
