Steering wheel buttons

Post by seaniebda »

Hi All,

A small bit off topic but someone might know.
I'm building a rally car and hoping to have a few switches on the steering wheel.
Can someone advise me where I'd be able to buy fancy buttons?

I'm thinking of having 5 buttons on the steering wheel.
1) Start button
2) Heated screen L
3) Heated screen R
4) Wash and wipe
5) Wipers
Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Steering wheel is a bad idea for such things.

And how fancy ? like gold plated, diamonds, or just frilly bits around them ?

If you must have buttons, confine them to :-
Kill Switch
Launch
Traction knobs and switches

Give anything else to the co-driver. The driver doesn't want to be worried about heated window or CD that's on!

I did see somewhere a company selling a wireless button set to make an easy install. Personally I wouldn't be keen on a fault liability.

Use a multicore pigtail lead ideally.

Usually: Dash controls - Mode, Next line, alarm reset etc. Also fuel trim knob, start button, horn, launch etc as other have stated.

Wiper, heated screen and blowers should be on a separate switch panel which either you or co-driver can reach ideally, as usually those are set and forget things. I would run something like Rain-X so you rarely need wipers anyway.
