DTA and GPS track mapping

This section is dedicated to discussion of DTA engine control units such as the DTA E48 EXP, P8 Pro, DTA S40, S60, S80, and S100, as well as all things ECU related.

DTA and GPS track mapping

Post by Basil »

New to DTA, have been a Motec fan for some years, but am interested in seeing what some alternatives offer. Are any DTA ecus able to take a GPS receiver input for track mapping, and what data logging facilities are available, and how is the data read, in a separate application like Motec's i2? Can any output data via CAN for logging in a separate logger? Thanks.

DTA makes engine management systems, not generic race car data acquisition systems. So in other words DTA ecu has nothing to do with GPS data.

But you can feed engine data from DTA to loggers like AIM.

As above. You can output via serial or CAN to a separate logger.

But DTA has no provision for GPS logging.

Racelogic offer GPS based systems that can do track logging as standalone, as do Race Technology.

Race Technology do offer a CAN interface so in theory you should be able to log the DTA stuff via one of their units. I was never able to get it to work though, and support from RT was terrible. So I ended up selling it again.

I have some GEMS DL99-L2 1 gigabyte loggers that can take a serial feed and two CAN BUS feeds, I wonder if they would talk with a DTA ecu? I have one talking to my M800 just fine. Are the CAN output format possibilities of the DTA ecu's documented?

It appears there's quite limited data on the CAN BUS, no ignition timing, injector pulse width, coil dwell, etcetera. Is anyone using CAN to feed a data logger that can confirm this limitation please?

It does contain timing and injector pulse width. Coil dwell is fixed, so there isnt much need to log it.

I use an AIM EVO4 with my S80 with a CAN connection.
It has worked from the word go with no problems.
I can log everything I can think of and it has GPS .
The software is easy to use, even for a numpty like me. :o :o
