S80pro ignition problem (cam and crank)

Post by miler »

Hi there
My name is Erik

Engine chevy v8
8 coils
Use the old magnetic distributor as cam sync
36-1 wheel using vr sensor

Im trying to set my ignition right
Problem is the spark doesnt show up in the same place.
Crank the engine and the first spark is in the right region, second is
Way later , third even further. Then back to the right place and it goes on seems like every 4th spark is good.

First oscilloskop i did looks good i think

But after some testing cam signals are showing every were.

In diagnostic display i get alot of cam signals but after letting go of the key they dissapear.
I even get cam signal even tho i disconnect it

Some images
Pardon my english im swedish.

Your distributor should have only 1 tooth to use as cam sync.

Your engine will start and run quite happily using only the 36-1 wheel, do this first to ensure everything else is right.

Wiring will be exactly the same, just enable twin spark with zero offset in general engine settings, and disable sequential and coil on plug.

The physical install will still be 1 coil per cylinder, they will just fire as wasted spark.

Is the wire from Distributor and Crank sensor screened? looks just like twisted wires. The pink signal looks like noise.

upload your map

Is the cam sensor wired to the correct input ok ? and twisted screened wiring ?

And wiring NOT running beside any HT leads ?

The crank trigger looks to be good, and that same trace does seem to show a good cam trigger too.

Flywheel mode 0 is correct, 36 teeth, 1 missing, you will need to tell the ecu the missing tooth position.

To get going i will leave the cam sensor for now.
I will upload my map when i get home.

In gen setting were you set the position.
Its roughly 7 teeths away from tdc
I wrote 70 as in degrees in collum.
Or should I write 7 as in teeths?

70 degrees is correct.

The image marked First Test will work in flywheel mode 26. However, if it's jumping around, you're better off doing as stevie says, and ignore the cam input for now.

Your cranking RPM is also very low. That's probably got something to do with the strange cam sensor readings.
