Tuning for the first time :D S80

Post by rxboxster »

Allreet guys,

I'm looking to map the engine (2.7 30v vvt Bi Turbo Audi V6)
Its on an S80, I have it up and running in open loop, and I'm going to have a go at tuning it myself.

I'm thinking RPM v TB, with MAP compensation.

When mapping this way, is it best to have compensation turned on, and just map is as it is?

Cheers

What compensation are you referring to ?

If MAP compensation, with a boosted engine this must always be turned on if you are using TPS as main load.

Personally I would never choose to do a boosted engine using that method when MAP vs RPM is so much easier, and at least the numbers on the table you're using directly relate to what's happening at the engine

yeah MAP compensation.

yeah for now i'm using TPS as the pain load.

How is MAP v RPM easier? ive not really looked into it.

As said, it just is. The numbers on teh table directly relate to output and you only need to tune this table ( each of course )

With TPS vs RPM with MAP compensation, you need to tune first the TPS table and then also fine tune the MAP compensation table, then maybe go back and mess with the TPS table again

It's just unnecessary although some do find it easier ( somehow ). It's main use is for engines with big cams, ITB's etc etc where map signal may not always be stable at lower loads.

At the moment I have it RPM v TPS, and single map compensations box ticked.

You don't have any compensation values entered in the MAP Fuel/Ign corrections.

Can I not just use the single table?

Which table are you talking about Rob?
Nigel is talking about this one:
MAP.png
Click the Set button to set the fuel compensation to standard. It will then look like this:
MAP2.png
You can then add ignition retard based on MAP as well if you prefer, but there's no simple formula for that.

Yeah that's the one I have set, the map I uploaded was off my home computer so probably out of date, and hence missing that section,

I will get an up to date version tomorrow and upload it.

Another question, I have the air temp sensor located just after the air filter, as the engine is turbo, is it better to have in just after the intercooler for air temp compensation.
