Renault Clio Williams F7R engine

Post by mefmotorsport »

Hi all,

I have a friends Renault Clio Williams here with and F7R 2 litre engine that I've moved onto a DTA S40 to replace the old Weber Alpha unit, also replaced the Weber Alpha throttle bodies with new Jenvey 45's.

I got a map from Alex which happens to be for an F4R engine which I think is from the newer Clio 182 model. The settings are 60-2 @ 86 degrees.

It wont start and im getting no rpm on the DTA Tacho but when I run the crankshaft oscilloscope it looks OK and says its an unknown flywheel pattern or one already in the settings. (60-2 @ 86). Im seeing the sensor resistance across the relevant ecu pins. Coil and injector test works fine.

Can anyone suggest anything? I'm suspecting that these settings are wrong for the F7R !

Post a crank scope.
If you're getting the unknown flywheel pattern, it's not recognising the pattern, which would mean it's not 60-2

OK, yes I just tried it with my 36-1 in the drill, changed the settings and it comes up with the correct settings and the tacho works too. Ill go and get a screen dump.

comment from a Renault Clio expert:

i'd like to officially welcome Martin Fox to the world of french design
ibuprofen works best 44-2-1-2-6-5-1-9 haha

step 1 is throw the completely mental renix trigger wheel in the bin and get a 60-2 off a P-reg 2l 16v megane ;-) everything else is pretty regular. youll run out of dwell time too before anything else... poor dizzies. youll be wondering why there's no welly less than 4k but they're just bad lumps

it *used* to be completely unworkable. now i know they added a few patterns in later firmwares... but none quite fit the bill, if i recall correctly. 44-2-2 **but in two lots of 22's** is what you'll see when you pull the box off

OH NO!

So from what I can see its 22-2 repeated in one revolution, it seems to have inverse teeth too.

I think I might have to fit an external 36-1 for quickness!

Will do crank oscilloscope screen dump once laptop has charged up a bit!

Yes that was my thought for ease of getting the engine up and running quicker with less fuss.

Edited, I'm talking rubbish.

It's 44-2-2 as previously suggested.
Not something that could easily be supported.

Front pulley now machined to take a 36-1 trigger wheel, it' the quickest solution although lots of man hours machining trigger wheel to fit the new alloy spacer boss on pulley plus a suitable crank sensor bracket!

Looking at this more, there must be a cam/dizzy signal of some sort. That pattern won't tell you which piston is rising.

36-1 definitely the best solution.
