Hi,

Thank you for reading this post.

Can someone please point me in the right direction on tuning idle?

The setup is as follows;
Mercedes 190E 2.5 16V, BMW throttle body and 3pin Bosch idle valve, S60 PRO.

I find tuning and maintaining a steady idle to be difficult. It will hunt quite a bit, and often stall.
The base settings for the idle is bits and pieces of info found across the web, so If I'm not sure if it's correct in any way.

I have attached some screenshots of the maps, so please comment if you have any input on the subject.

Turn off ALL closed loop features.

Set a good solid warm base idle using throttle blade only, and set idle control valve to say a static 10-20% or other low value that works for you.

Adjust idle mixtures so all is good at this base setting

After you have done this, you can then turn on any closed loop systems, but they will only need to do minimal adjustments so you can keep any corrections small, which will much reduce the chance of hunting or problems.

Idle air bypass will mostly then do work when the engine is cold only, it should need to do very little or nothing when the engine is warm. Likewise any closed loop fuel corrections

Thank you for the advice, it sounds like a logical way to set the base settings.

Do you, or anyone else for that matter, know if the settings for the idle valve or the lambda is anywhere near to be correct?

For lambda Im using the old Innovate LM1, not sure about the idle valve other than it's a 3wire unit from an BMW e36.

The outputs on the LM-1 are programmable as far as I recall ?

So it's up to you to ensure any calibrations used for it's outputs are correct with what is seen at the DTA.

As for 3 wire idle valve...I think DTA can only do a 2 wire ? so not sure what connections can be used or if that valve is suitable.

3 wire valve can be used. Settings above appear correct for that.
