altered the firing tooth from 0 to 1.

i've got the pairs, 1 and 3, 2 and 4 as per the suppliers email, but I've also tried swapping the pairs each time i've made a change.

I've run a timing light whilst cranking, and i keep getting the 90 degree mark, although it wanders a bit as the engine slows. I've no idea how reliable the timing light is at slow starting revs.

Also not helping, is that I've got 2 marked 90,s... btdc and after i guess.

I think it's the 270 degree marking showing, I've marked the 90degree one. i'm not 100% sure though.... it's a real slow flash.

i'm beginning to feel that a shiney pulley isn't the 'be all and end all!'

any thoughts before i set fire to it.....

appreciated

I've just tried looking for the indicated tdc whilst the timing light is flashing on no 1 tdc. The actual tdc position is a tad after 3 oclock.... in fact if it's firing at 10 degrees, then i'd say it was about exactly 90 degrees out.

I think it might be a good idea to go back to basics, I'm not sure what cylinder is number 1 on this flat 4 engine, but remove the plug and using a screwdriver and rock the engine back and forth and identify TDC on that cylinder. Check that it compares correctly with the speed shop pulley. I note that it is fixed with 6 bolts, perhaps its been assembled in-correctly?

Just tried the old pencil test in no.1 and it is correct, but for a few seconds I was hopeing It wasnt.

We use the split in the 2 crankcases at the top, as the tdc position. You can't see it on the pulley pic, but you should be able to see it in the earlier pics.

This should be simple.

Assuming you've went through this in a logical sequence.

1. verify your TDC marked is accurate and actually at no1 TDC.
2. disconnect coil trigger no2, and perform a spark test. This should create a spark on cyls 1+3, which will verify wiring is correct, as well as spark being available.
3. assuming your previous comments about where the missing tooth etc is is accurate, then you should almost be ready to go.
4. obviously reconnect coil output no2, and perform a test again just to ensure spark on cyls 2+4 is actually available
5. Crank engine over with spark plugs removed and verify you have spark when cranking

6. refit plugs and start engine and verify timing with a timing light, with ign timing set to 0 deg on map.

I'm in North Lincolnshire, just a few miles south of the Humber Bridge.

Having a binge on the car tonight, re running through Stevies list and hopefully bottoming everything.
