Hi all
I'm goint to start a m20b27 bmw engine. It is a 6 cylinders four stroke engine.
The ECU is a S60pro type.
The engine is fitted with a cranck sensor closed to a pulley 60 tooth-2, but it has no camshaft sensor.
I have a question about injection : in these conditions, is it possible to realize a semi sequential injection ?
I mean a first injection on cylinders 1-5-3 (output 9, Inj1, on wiring schematic S60pro) and a second injection event on cylinders 6-2-4 (output 17, Inj2)
Thank's in advance for your retry, have a nice day, bye

Re: S60Pro : semi-sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engin
Wire injection as per instructions, 1 injector per cylinder in firing order.
I'm sure Alex can explain actual injection events and what is available.
Although I wouldnt describe what you propose as any form of sequential, more a strange batch fire setup.

Re: S60Pro : semi-sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engin
Wire the injectors in pairs, using the firing order of 1-3-5-6-2-4.
So the injectors fire in pairs, worked out like this:
1-3-5
6-2-4
Wire them as follows:
ECU pin 9, Injector 1 - Injectors 1 and 6
ECU pin 17, Injector 2 - Injectors 3 and 2
ECU pin 34, Injector 3 - Injectors 5 and 4
So the injectors fire in pairs, worked out like this:
1-3-5
6-2-4
Wire them as follows:
ECU pin 9, Injector 1 - Injectors 1 and 6
ECU pin 17, Injector 2 - Injectors 3 and 2
ECU pin 34, Injector 3 - Injectors 5 and 4

Alex, thank's for your fast retry
Firing order on this engine is 1-5-3-6-2-4, but it doesn't matter
So, in these conditions, the ECU will inject fuel :
- both on cylinder 1 and 6, with cylinder 1 in power (exhaust & inlet valves closed) and cylinder 6 in intake (exhaust valve near closed & inlet valve open)
- the behavior is the same for cylinder 5&2, and 3&4
But how many angular distance is there between the 3 injection phase during engine cycle please ?
See you, by

Re: S60Pro : semi-sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engin
The fuel is injected at the same point for each cylinder, which is either at TDC or tooth number 1, I can't remember. It's fairly irrelevant to these engines.
As yours is a 6 cylinder engine, there will be 120 degrees between the injection events.

Re: S60Pro : semi-sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engin
are you sure ?
because 1 injection event every 120°crk, that means that there is 2 injection events per cylinder per engine cycle (720°crk), it seems strange ..? no ?

Alex is sure I am certain, there is no other way to fire 6 cyls with the S60 ECU

Yes, I'm sure.Rone Kenoby wrote:are you sure ?

With no cam sensor, the ECU doesn't know if the cylinder is on the compression or exhaust stroke.
The ECU simply fires the injectors twice per cycle. As the inlet valve is closed, the fuel simply sits in the inlet until the inlet valve opens.
This is how all OEMs do it with no cam sensor.

Re: S60Pro : semi-sequential injection on a 6 cylinder engin
why not, so if i understand your mind, each injector is fired two times per cycle :
- the first one when the piston is at top dead center before power
- a second one when the piston is at top dead center before inlet
we agree with that ?
and to bounce on a previous topic, at what moment exactly is fired the injector during engine cycle : at TDC time or at tooth number 1 (equal to 90°crk before tdc power)
i suppose at tdc ?
