I seem to recall asking Allan about the spark test mode years ago and I may be wrong but I thought he said it didn't used the same dwell setting as the running map, which would appear odd and also make it difficult to test optimal dwell duration easily (a single frequency option on test would help here) .
Perhaps Alex could clarify?

The older E48/P8 don't use the GES dwell time, but the S Series does.

I have run the S60 with wasted spark on our race bike running Dyna blue coils, 0.7 ohm with a 2500 microsec setting. They have not got hot and I have not had a misfire.
