E48 newby help please

Post by Jenvey9a »

Hello all
I’ve finally got round to actually starting my mk1 golf!!
(Vw 2.0 16v jenvey itbs and e48 ecu) running dtawin on windows xp
For a base map I used the 2000xe map supplied and just changed the trigger wheel settings. Car starts, idles and will rev not perfect but somewhere near.
Problem is after circa 30 seconds it dies! Weather on idle or a fast idle.
Fuel pressure is a steady 3 bar and doesn’t move.
I’m sure it’s a silly setting I’ve missed but starting to pull my hair out now
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks James

Sounds like it's just too weak to keep running? Do you have a lambda?
Try using the real time mapping screen to input some large fuel changes.
Are you seeing good rpm signal and no climbing crank errors in the diagnostic screen?

Rpm signal appears to be good and no crank errors
I wouldn’t say it’s weak as it smells rich and the plugs are slightly sooty.
I haven’t currently got a lambda in it, that’s next job once it arrives

Or buy or make a knobs box, it's a great tool for making very rapid changes to the fuel and ignition whilst running
