Old E48 - another connection issue

Post by markk »

Hi all,

Browsed the forum, seen the instructions etc etc, followed the youtube, pins 1-5 connected from D15 to D9, USB>Serial installed (Prolific - tried another that works on my GEMS stuff too).
Never been in this ecu, came with an engine that has been installed elsewhere, ECU powers up, once ignition switched on it primes fuel pump ok for a few seconds, but no connection via laptop.
Com ports set ok, baud rate at 57600, slowed TX/RX down.

All I get is "attempting to connect to ECU - Failed, ECU not connected or not switched on"

No port conflicts.

Is it worth sending to DTA on the off chance or is it duff from a map access point?

There is about zero chance of needing to send the ecu in, and 100% chance if it being a cable/adapter/laptop issue.

As always, try and use a direct serial connection instead of an adapter.

Its pins 1-5 on the 9 pin connector to pins 1-5 on the 15 pin connector. Edit, sorry looks like you do have it like this.
You need to use the DTAWin software, not DTASwin.

That was the info I followed. I have even benched it off the car on the PC, still nothing.
As for a direct serial connection, do PC/Laptops still exist with such connections

The USB>serial converters I have used are both proven and known good to work with other ECU software, so unless DTA has something strange don't see why it shouldn't work.

Tried a lead from Martin Fox too with a pot box setup, this didn't work either.

Can't see how it can be anything other than the ECU.

Are you selecting the right com port? You can check in windows device manager. Where the prolific will be allocated a com port if that makes sense. Then select that in the dta software.

Just to update, it seems the DTA is lead critical, access has now been found, I now can access the ecu software from back to the future lol.

From interest, how old is the e48?
