audi r8 coils bmw engine s60

Post by destiny460 »

Hello everyone

I have a problem with my coils
I installed audi vw's r8 coils (the red ones) on a bmw engine

I all wired well
Pin 1: +12
Pin 2: power ground same mass as ecu
Pin 3: ecu signal
Pin 4: ground to the cylinder head

I get the 12v coils and the 5v of ecu
when I start I have the ignition on my coil (with my coil sparkler I can see the spark of the coil), but nothing comes out of my candle

I moved the masses several times to different places, no improvement

apparently it would be coils with a falling edge, I tested with the option "Externally Amplified Coils" but with I have no ignition

I saw on the forum that a person had a similar problem, it's coils do not trigger, he added a resistance in addition, it would come from there?

or will it come from a mass problem?

(with my original coils it works correctly)

thank you for your help, I do not see where it can come from

If they are the Beru coils, then they need a pull up resistor between the signal and 12v wires.

1kOhm is will be fine.

Hello
this good my coils we spark well,
I put pin 2 chassis and pin 4 cylinder head mass, testing with ecu I have the spark at each candle (without the pull up)

on the other hand when I start, I have no spark
I measure when I test with ecu, the ecu order goes down to 9 volts and dust, when I start with the key it goes down to 6 volts / 7 volts
I did not mount the pull up, corrects this problem?

thank you for your clarification

(edit) I tested with the pull up, it doesn't work
only when i start i don't spark

Is the ECU synchronising when you crank?

6 or 7 volts will require the injector dead times and coil on times to be accurate. Many injectors won't even open at that voltage.
What is the coil on time set to?

Just rereading this, and spotted something.

Do you have amplified coils ticked or not?

I have this coils and it works good. As I can see you wire it up as I did, maybe you did not tick amplified coils in basic engine configuration as Alex suggested.
