Hi,
I am newbie here. Could anybody give me any advice?
I got kitcar-C20XE with E48I ignition(Weber carb) last December, but no spark when cranking.
At first, I replaced new lead, plug, coil and crank sensor, but still did not wake up.
So next I checked when ignition ON,
- voltage "0v-12v-0v" @3pin/coil
- voltage "5v" @3pin/TPS
"maybe" E48I is still alive, I think with above result.
(But I do not know whether "0v-12v-0v" situation is correct or trouble...)
So I did next step,
- when cranking, no voltage(no flashing) both side@3pin/coil
Now I am here and I do not have any idea what I should do next...
Any idea/checkpoint is helpful. Thank you!
E48I - no spark
Re: E48I - no spark
I assume by the 0v - 12v - 0v reference your ignition switch is providing 0v at 'off' position, 12v at 'run' position and 0v at cranking position? If so there is your problem! The DTA and the ignition system need to be live and stay live even if switch is in position 3 / cranking - that position should only energise the starter system (and a ballasted ignition system if fitted)

Re: E48I - no spark
So it's bought as a non-runner, or has it ever run ?
You should obviously have 12v somewhere at the coil during cranking. This is vehicle wiring, not ecu output wiring.

Re: E48I - no spark
Hi guys, thank you for quick reply/suggestion.
Yes, I bought non-runner(pre-owner said "moved last year"...), so I thought she has something trouble, but,,,.
Anyway,
"0v-12v-0v" means 3pin wires from ECU(to coil) at coil plug, when ignition ON and without cranking.
center is 12v(during ignition ON) for coil power, and side wires(both 0v) are COIL1&2 trigger from ECU.
I do not know trigger wire (COIL1&2) which "12v or 0v" is correct when ignition ON(without cranking) at DTA system.
My opinion, without cranking, both trigger holding "12v" is correct.
Is this unit fault? and I should replace newer ignition system(T2i or S40i)???
Thank you!

Re: E48I - no spark
Buying without fully diagnosing....not so great.
However you're in an awkward spot, that it is a very old ecu and not sure whether the readily available software will connect to it ? Best to call Alex perhaps.
Although going forward, and for ease of use....a new modern unit would make some good sense.

Yes, me think so too.
Of course, newer ECU is better for me/car, so I will go if/when cannot fixed.
also will try to contact Alex how I can diagnose.
stevieturbo and katana, thank you for advise/suggestion!

Re: E48I - no spark
Hi there,
Just a thought - Check the wiring. If you've swapped the coil pack are the pinouts the same as the one fitted before? Also you've inherited a fault so worth checking end to end connectivity between the ECU and the coil. For example- My car was originally fitted with a Valeo coil pack and I think that's died so I'm fitting a Bosch one. When I was looking it up there seemed to be choices of coil pack and some had different wiring requirements than others. Also worth attaching a laptop if you haven't already.... that will give you a ton of information on what's going on and will allow you to confirm the health of the crank and throttle sensor too.

Re: E48I - no spark
Hi Phil,
Thank you for your suggestion/advice.
I will check wiring connectivity this weekend. maybe new coil pack has same wiring order, but also will re-check this.
Yes, "laptop" is good solution, so I will arrange new pc in a near future.
Anyway, quick question about "coil trigger voltage", when "ignition ON" without cranking, which "12v or 0v" is correct?
Thank you!

Re: E48I - no spark
you should see 12v with 12v applied to the other connection of the coil, the ecu will only ground this whilst it sees the engine turning to start the dwell period.
Does the fuel pump work from the ecu ok?

Hi Rob,
thank you for your answer, means something trouble with my unit...
I did not check fuel pump output voltage, just checked 5v output for TPS.
I will check this too. Thank you!
