Water Injection S80

Post by Dick Spanner »

Hi Guys

I run a sprint spec westfield with a supercharged K20Z4 running on an S80 DTA

I want to try Water Injection to reduce massive IAT's

Has anybody got experience with this particually using the DTA to control it?

WM injection works great to reduce the ait.
My supercharged c20xe without fmi has no controller for the WM Injection.

Just a boost sensor on it.
@ 0.5 Bar we start the pump and 2x 250cc W/M is injected before the charger.

The AIT is reduced with about 30-35 degrees celcius

But i talked to my tuner.
It should not be a problem to let it be controlled by the s80.

Just use one of the aux outputs.
Even a 2 stage system is possible with a sollenoid

Hi Corsaboy!

That's good news! are you running a water meth mixture? Do you have any fail safe built in? Do you also run any charge cooling?

Hi Del,

no i don't have a charge cooler.
The first plan was to mount one, but we have not enough space.
Take a look @ the project sub forum for my build.

Because the Corsa is only used for dragrace we don't have a failsafe.
But for every event, i test the system for correct working.

We drive with a 50/50 mix..
The system we use is form http://www.coolisbetter.nl
This is a good system for a good price.

Regards,
Marcel

Thanks Marcel

Just been looking at your project. Looks fantastic!

Noticed when you were on the rollers you moved the WI jets from 'after' the supercharger to firing directly into the throttle body. what effect did that have?

Well the other nozzle's after the charger are still there (they have taken out of action), but this where 90cc nozzle and much to small for the heat that the eaton m90 charger makes.

So together with the tuner we decided to place them before the charger so the wm mix has enough time to cool down the air en mix with this air before its going into the charger and engine.

By injecting it before the charger you also thighten the charger a little bit more.
On the dyno we have seen a little bit higher boost.

The roots charger also got very hot, by injecting it before the charger you also cool it down a little bit.

This is all good news!

I've been running a water/air charge cooler but with little effect. With WI I can junk it and save a lot of weight.

I take it you are running 2 x 250cc nozzles, 1 for each throttle?

How did you calculate the nozzle size? I'm only running a single throttle body.

Off topic slightly, what compression ratio are you running and what boost?

I use a t-adapter. So 1 pump, line form the back to the front.
T-adapter and then the 2 nozzle's.

We use a boost sensor to switch on a relais.
This relay powers on the pump.
You have a little delay but you can adjust the boost sensor.

How much HP do you have at this time (Cranck HP is good for me)

My compression ratio is about 8,0:1 and we are running on 1.0 - 1.2 bar boost.
Need to adjust the belt system for the charger so the boost will be a little more constant.

Currently running 340bhp 0.75 bar boost and 9:1 CR

I did have 360bhp will 11:1 CR but melted pistons. But I've since found this was due to not having a boost pipe connected to the fuel regulator!

I'm hoping to increase CR to 10 or 10.5:1

My Charger is an M62

I also run water injection but I am using an aquamist HFS-6 kit. Couldn't be happier. It piggybacks the injector duty cycle signal and pulses the valve for the water/methanol source. So, if you jet the valve right, you just pull some fuel out of your DTA map linearly - no progressive flow based on boost pressure. I have the HFS-6 hooked up so that if I turn the gauge off or it receives a fault, it map switches in DTA.
