Feature Request thread ( make sticky )

The old one long since disappeared, so it's about time a new one was created. Mine's been off the road for ages so havent really much to add for now. But will start with a very easy one.

1. Open up both Lambda channels for logging regardless of sequential being active. Why lock a perfectly usable logging channel ?

2. Idle speed control by advance *and* PWM.

3. Over-run shut off by MAP *and* TPS / RPM.

4. Cam advance by oil temp

5. Idle on / off points seperately adjustable and by TPS number instead of %

i emailed this to Allan about a week ago, no reply as of yet!

Hi Allan

i have just been setting up a M800 for a customer, and a few things that have come up with the motec software that i think would vastly improve the DTA software.

1) gear calculation from rear wheel speed vs crank speed, it would be nice if you could use this with the shift cut!

2) extended features in the injector coil and auxiliaries, with the motec you can control each injector and coil sepratley this makes diagnostics and set up much easer, you can even send PWM on all the auxiliaries to test what ever you have connected.

3) dead time tables for each set of injectors, most bike racing series you cant change the injectors, it would be nice if we could have the dead time correct on top and bottom injectors.

4) shift light/warnings i have been asked if we can put the shift light and warning light on different channels, some times its hard to tell if you should be changing gear or there's a dip in oil pressure!

5) more break points in tables, i have found my self that some times with high revving engines there is a point that you cant get quite right then you have to change the RPM range and then have to start the mapping from scratch, in the motec you can "push" a new row into the table with out changing the rest.

6) oil temp on the real time display!!

7) what a bout a rethink on the inputs? much like what you did with the outputs, personally i think it would make the ecu more widely usable.

8) aux3 you can very frequency instead of duty, can we have this on all the outputs?

I do understand that your working on other things, and think in some respects your software is better than the motec's, but these few changes would make it easer to get the last 1% out of an engine (I no its not worth having when you have 500bhp but it is when you only have 120!)

I do except that i dont have that many ecus from you, but its the silly little things that put people off like only being able to map to 16,000 at the moment, in the last 3 mounts i have fitted and set up 2 M800's instead of S80's because the customer's are willing to pay nearly £4000 more to have that little more flexibly. even if they will never use or need it!

Thanks for your time

/\ He he, good luck with that :D

Allan doesn't like:

1) Long emails
2) Other brands of ECU compared to his

You have raised some excellent points though, especially the ability to insert a row into a table without having to rescale the whole thing again, that really is annoying.

And DTASwin is vastly better than Motec ECU Manager, in my opinion 8-)

don't get me wrong i think the DTA kit is very good, but in places its let down! like that you can set the rev limits to 20 000 but you can only map up to 16 000!

i quite like the motec software, but only because it assumes nothing, the dta is much easer to set up but some what limmeting!

There is no point trying to make comparisons really. M800 is in a totally different price range, and it's also getting off topic. Although the massive flexibility of the Motec with inputs and outputs is great to have.

I want this thread kept clean, and to the point. It will make it easier for anyone reading who may have influence to see what people are looking for.

Interesting thread. The M800 is a high end ECU but you get almost the same features from the cheaper M84.

Both superior to the DTA due to a couple of simple things, first off: flexibility.

Does anyone mind if I delete the non-feature-request posts from this thread? We don't really need to hear about M800 and M84 :)

i agree that this thread is about DTA not MoTeC but if the features are available in in outher ECUS then why not use them as an example?

as far as im concerned the large post that i put on is all feature requests!?

I don't mind leaving it - just let me know if you guys want it pruned at any time
