Problem - S14 with DTA S60 - Coil heats up just powering DTA

Post by jdm4sinduct »

hi guys i brought a dta s60 with mefmotorsport last year now i finally have time to deal with it. but something is wrong and i don't know what it is, so hopefully thif forum could help me out. So yeah this is what's happening.

Car is a Nissian S14 with SR20DET engine.
Using S15 3 wire coils no external amp.

When i key on the car the coil heats up very quickly. by just keying on it heats up within 30 seconds to a level where it burns your hand and temperature keeps going up. If i don't turn off it will burn the coils.

So i tried doing the test coils and injector funtion and sparks and injectors both works and yes it still heats up the same way.

I wired according to the diagram. Checked many time if its properly wired. Also i put on a hks V-pro to test and make sure the engine and sensor is good.

What is it that i'm doing wrong? software setting problem? or ECU is screwed or wiring problem. What could it be? Anyone could help out please

Thanks for the help

S15 coils have built in igniters.
Disconnect coils, power up ecu and make sure external amp box is checked.

yes, you must disconnect the coils from the ecu then switch on the ecu and go into the software and general engine settings, tick the box for "external amps" then save and switch off. reconnect the coils then switch ecu back on. You may well have already damaged the coils or ecu though.

If you recheck already, your coil too hot again may be your coil to damage.

Good luck....
