I have everything else working in bar rpm...All the other inputs for fuel gauge,temps ect are hard wired. I think the engine ecu picks up the rpm signal from the coils then sends it via can to the instrument cluster. Thanks again for the responses

The ecu picks of crank speed...from the crank sensor.
Hence if you retain the OEM ecu in a piggy back style you could get the clocks to work, assuming you also retained that crank trigger.
Essentially the OEM ecu would just become a controller for the tacho lol ( assuming you arent still using it for anything else )
I put Hayabusa clocks into my car, and of all the gauges not to work...the bloody temperature gauge was fed via a datastream. Everything else was simple. So I've a Hayabusa ecu shoved behind my dash purely to make the temperature gauge on the clocks work lol
