Re: Ring Gear as crank signal?
I'd thought of that but the DTA would read double the RPM as its not supposed to work like that, i think it would just be a pain. The lad Im helping doesn't have much ££ and Im just looking at a Microsquirt that appears to work fuel and ignition from just a 4 point distributer. They do one for £300 which can't be that bad? I'd struggle to get a 2nd hand S40 or even E48 for that.

hi Rob
It shouldn't care, if you tell it it is a 36-1 crank wheel and run a ford wasted spark coil pack it should be fine.

If you're looking for really cheap too, Spitronics is another option.

My fathers 4x4 trials truck uses a megasquirt and runs surprisingly well. Microsquirt probably be fine if you don't need the additional features of a S40 and need it to run of the 4tooth (well, 2 really) trigger - if you're on a budget you do what you have to

Re: Ring Gear as crank signal?
Hello,
If your engine is based on the engine block EA111 (Polo engine from mid/end of 80s) you could use the sealing ring carrier from the late engines which include a 60-2 trigger. A VW Hallsensor will fit into that carrier. It is plug&play.
You have to remove the flywheet, thats all.
This carrier will also fit to the 827 engines (2V 1600 / 1800 from the 80s as fittet into Golf2, Passat 32b, and so on)
here is a link (sorry, its German, but it should give you an impression..)
http://www.kraft-autoteile.de/dokumente ... 7_2011.pdf
If you scrolling down, you will see the Elring part no. like 364.700.
Please be careful, there are two different types availible:
1. teeth
2. magnetic rubber
The sensors for both are different as far as I know. I have bought the teethed one. I can have a look for the part no. The teethed one uses a hall sensor. But there are also two different hall sensors with M5 and M6 bolt.
cheers, best regards
Stefan

Re: Ring Gear as crank signal?
Thanks just what I wanted, Can't do German but I get the idea, so you need to press the housing on in the right position as there is a locking tab on the trigger.
I'll check the engine codes i have.
