DTA reads my gauges without running. No issue.
I have found the problem, now I just have to figure out if I can wire this transducer for 0-5V.
On one technical sheet I found late yesterday, it looks possibly there is a solution.
The sensor is option #5.

Re: MEAS oil & fuel pressure sensor driving me nuts
You won't get any oil pressure without the engine running
Re: MEAS oil & fuel pressure sensor driving me nuts
If the sensor is a 4-20mA you'll need a load resistor and then take the signal from across the load resistor. a 250 ohm resistor will give you 5v at 20mA (full scale).
It should work but its ugly and a bit of mucking around.

If it doesnt work, and needs a regulated 12v supply...I think Aux5 output is a regulated supply ?
Have you powered the sensor and tested it to see what it's output is ?

Inputs work without the engine running, it's only the aux outs that don't turn on until the engine is running.

That's what it is, well spotted. That sensor is option 5. Option 3 would be easier for you to use.

Alt #1
or
Alt #2
Now I am not 100% on my own home turf here, could these two alternatives above be thinking correctly?
The sensor specs says 9-30 V supply so I am hesitant to if it will work with 5 volt.
I could try both but I am also a slight bit worried to connect the main 12 volts supply and 500 ohm in between to the signal input.
To be honest, the reristors I ahve are 270 ohm but this will be adjusted witrh scaling, if I just get a linear supply.

Re: MEAS oil & fuel pressure sensor driving me nuts
Oil pressure without starting.... of course I have that!
The alternative I always use on new engines is a an external oilpump from a aircooled VW which I have modified to prime with a handdrill.
Now for this type of testing, I just have removed the spark plugs, pressure comes after few revs on the starter.
On fuel, even easier, once or two priming on the DTA and pressure is there.

Re: MEAS oil & fuel pressure sensor driving me nuts
But surely the load resistor needs to go in SERIES with the positive supply then take the signal from the junction of the sensor wire and the load resistor?troy wrote:If the sensor is a 4-20mA you'll need a load resistor and then take the signal from across the load resistor. a 250 ohm resistor will give you 5v at 20mA (full scale).
