Innovate LM1 incorrect readings.

Post by Boardpaul »

Evening Guys,
I'm using an Innovate LM1 connected to the S40. My issue is that the scale that is in the ecu doesn't appear to be correct.
At idle, I have been watching the Innovate screen vs the dta on the laptop.
I'm getting 12.5 on the innovate and about 18 on the dta.
Can anyone help with this.

Thanks

Calibrate manually

Make sure the LM1 has the standard calibration, they can be changed.
Also make sure you don't have a ground offset.

Otherwise, as Stevie says, just calibrate it manually.

Thanks for the help guys.
I'm sat looking at it now and it appears that the scaling may be correct. However it appears that the voltage the Innovate is reading is different to what the S40 is seeing.
I assume that I have something wrong on the wiring.
Would that be correct?

And again...calibrate manually.

Flatline the Innovates outputs and see what it reads on the DTA. Test at various voltages.

But yes there could be wiring issues too....but Innovate are also rather fussy.

Can you access the LM1 configuration?
I have one Innovate device that I cant access to check what it thinks its doing, its one with the square connector.

Where is the LM1 grounded, and where is the ECU grounded?

Right, firstly thanks for the replies.
This issue took a back seat during the weekend as the car kept dropping onto 3 cylinders and fouling a plug. This ended up taking the focus.

I have a borrowed laptop that has the innovate software in it so I looked st that today. By flatline the innovate do you mean just set it to 1 voltage across the scale?

The dta is currently earthed to the battery and the analogue output from the dta is to the chassis.

Correct...and in theory if all is well, the DTA should read 1v

Test at various voltages, and then you can create your own scale that you know is correct, as installed on your car.

And then hope it doesnt change with the engine running lol

And build a scale to cover the range you need.

ie there isnt really any point in doing say 8.0 to 22.0:1 for 0-5v, when you'd never be anywhere near those extremes.

So if turbo, maybe go for a range of say 9.8 to 18.0. Even that is pushing the limits, but adding a little either way can help diagnose problems should they occur.

OK

What analogue output are you grounding to the chassis?
Do you mean the LM-1 is grounded to the chassis?
