Hi!
I think this is my first post here, however, I´ve been reading for a while.
I have a project car, a BMW 2002-73, with a s50b30 engine and DTA s80 ECU. have been running this setup for quite some time and it works very well.
any how, I have been running a e36 stock Tacho together with the digital tacho output from the ECU, but after a malfunction of the e36 tacho, i decided to go with something more robust. bought a VDO viewline, However, this Tacho wants a signal directly from the minus pin from a ignition coil (Which I discovered after I bought the damn thing). This means that I need to use a Tacho booster. Found a nice wiring diagram from the DTA manual simply hooking up a Relay coil between 12v and the Tacho-signal wire between the ECU and the Tacho. Looks very neat. (see attached file)
What I would like to know if there is any additional components needed to handle voltage-spikes etc for the DTA s80?
Could the ECU be damaged just running the coil directly?
has anyone tested the setup and can confirm that this works?
thanks in advance =)

Re: Tacho Booster
Nothing else required, the wiring is accurate.
Alternatively you can use diodes instead.

Re: Tacho Booster
Just wired one today on an EP82 Turbo Starlet and works perfect
