Electronic Throttle Control

Post by Hindaroo »

Can an S80 do electronic throttle control? If so can it be linked to launch control to raise the base RPM?

No not on it,s own, you would need an STC along with your S80.

Why do you want to raise base rpm, in my install i use the rpm knob to reduce the rpm once underway.
There are a variety of ways to set launch rpm.
You need a wheel speed sensor to make it all work properly.

Thanks Antral.
I've read the download and I don't think it will work with my pedal sensor which has 1 CW output and 1 ACW output, whereas the STC appears to need 2 in sync signals.

Hi Rob
I want to raise base RPM on selecting launch control which the STC permits.
We've tried other methods (jacking it open a bit and using the ISCV) now with an electronic throttle body we're going to try using that.
Yes we will have wheel speed sensors to disengage launch.

On launch control, your foot is flat on the throttle.

Why would you want the throttle opened simply on selection of a switch ?

What are you defining as launch control ?

Yes you're right.
The base RPM increase is required after the system disengages launch and engages ALS.
The original question is regarding using the S80 to operate the electronic throttle and I don't believe that the S80 / STC combination can do this unless I change the pedal position sensor to suit.

You can use those pedal position sensors.
It should be mode 9, but will depend on how your throttle body works. If that has two sensors working in opposing directions as well, you will be fine.

As Stevie says for launch you just mash the throttle and the rpm is contained by the ecu via ignition retard then spark cut, you have launch options to help increase boost.
For ALS and a TC you can tell the TC to open up to 30% to give you anti lag without the need for an additional valve, if that's what you are trying to say about base rpm?

TBH I think you are getting muddled up with launch and ALS?
You can't have a naturally high idle with your foot off the throttle, that is fundamentally dangerous!

Rob I agree with what you are saying (especially the muddled bit). But the real question is will this ECU drive the electronic throttle control.
Whether we run an elevated base RPM (by that I mean idle speed) and how much will be decided when setting the engine up. At present it is sufficient to know that it can be done.

Alex

There is one throttle position sensor with 2 outputs
Ch1 CW 0.1 to 4.9Volts
Ch2 ACW 4.9 to 0.1 Volts

There are 2 outputs from the Throttle body pos sensor, Main and Sub
According to the notes on the original ECU pinout :-
Main: Fully closed: 0.6, Fully opened: 3.96
Sub: Fully closed: 1.48, Fully opened: 4.17

Are these 2 items going to be compatible with an S80?
