Alright there guys.
Please bare with me.... I'm not so clued up like some of you guys... sorry.

Anyway, brought an engine running off a DTA ecu with launch control. I have a sensor wired into the loom but what I don't understand is how the sensor picks up a signal? Do I need a single mark on the undriven wheel for the sensor to read or several? Can I mark the back of my drum?

You need between 4 and 60 teeth on a trigger wheel.
The type of tooth required will depend on the sensor you have.

Ah I see.... from what I've been told by the previous owner, the sensor used to read off the grooves in his rear brake discs. I'll get a photo of the sensor in question.

Ah, so you only have the engine and loom.
- the sensor needs to go on an un-driven wheel
- It's useful to have the gear change light operational as this tells you when launch is active
- you need a momentary switch to activate it also
- I'd recommend a pot so that you can set the start line rpm, if it doesn't already have one
- You need to set it all up in the software for your car, pulses per revolution and vehicle distance per engine revolution in your start gear
