AEM high performance coils feasible for S60?

Post by bofelix »

Hello to all,

a friend of me would like to use these coils (AEM high performance coil w/o power stage, #30-2852) with the S60 ECU.

https://www.aemelectronics.com/files/in ... 20Coil.pdf

The low primary resistance of the coil must lead to a high primary current. The spark energy >100 mJ is very high and the dwell time is only 3 ms.
The data sheet of the similar AEM coil with internal IGBT power stage specifies the maxium primary current to 17 A !!!!

Is it possible to run the coils with the S60? Is the primary current for the internal coil power stages on the S60 ECU limited?

Thanks for your help!
best regards
Stefan

They are normal inductive coils, so you can connect them.

You will need to use a current clamp and oscilloscope to find what the current draw is, and keep it below 8 amps.

We have seen the other coils run before with no problems. the 17 amp draw is only at high dwell times.

HI Alex,

thanks for that precise answer. I have a cheap USB oscilloscope and a clamp also.

I will do so.
