Ignition Amplifier with rising edge trigger

Post by cooberpedy »

Hi all,
my ignition amplifiers have rising edge on the trigger instead of the common falling edge.
Is there an option in software where I can select the ignition trigger edge on S100?

Yes, tick Externally Amplified Coils, that will invert the signal.

Is there a reason you want to keep the amplifiers? The ECU can probably drive the coils directly (unless they are CDI). One less failure point.

Yes, good point.
Initially, my plan was to reuse the built in knock- / missfire detection of the amplifier units. But I'm not sure if I can get it to work.....as these ion-sensing units are quite comlex ;)

I'm not aware of any aftermarket ecu that uses the ion sensing of the old Saab coils

agree, so my plan was to hook up my own controller along with the S100 to the ion sensing amplifiers along with the S100 and see if I can get it to work, not in closed loop, as this would require a special "retard on knock" input for the S100, but at least for tuning or diagnosis. I'm using BMW S85 units.

If your controller can output a 0 - 5V output, you can input that in to one of the analogues and pull timing that way.

Whats the sampling rate of the ANA inputs? If they are fast enough it could work.

a few times every millisecond, so that should be fast enough for that engine

OK, I have an ignition event about every 1.4ms at max. rpm. That leaves a little room for applying a filter function.
