Speed sensor input from Honda Y21?
My S40Pro manual does say that it uses speed input data from a Hall Effect undriven wheel sensor. However it doesn't say whether or not it would read the input from my Honda Y21 gearbox/diff speed sensor (attached to a 1994 B16A2 now residing in a Mini). Can anybody enlighten me?

If it's a hall effect sensor then it probably will.Pockets wrote:My S40Pro manual does say that it uses speed input data from a Hall Effect undriven wheel sensor. Gee, thanks Stevie.
Maybe I should rephrase my query: has anybody on this forum successfully used the VSS feed from a Y21 gearbox to generate a (preferably calibratable) speed reading on a device attached to a DTA S40 Pro?

Re: Speed sensor input from Honda Y21?
It's generally fairly simple.
In most cases if it is a 3 wire sensor it is hall effect. This will have a power supply, ground and signal return so quite easy to identify and test.
If it's a 2 wire sensor then it is not, and usually VR.

It is a 3 wire sensor but it is a gear on the sensor that is driven by the differential 1 turn generats a square wave with 4 pulses per rpm. thats what I have found but not verified. I plan myself using it as a driven speed input.

If it is a Hall effect with 4 or more pulses per rev, that will work fine.Fredrik wrote:It is a 3 wire sensor but it is a gear on the sensor that is driven by the differential 1 turn generats a square wave with 4 pulses per rpm. thats what I have found but not verified.
