Re: lexus 3uz engine
We helped someone get one running, but I don't know what happened after that.
Fairly simple. Only thing to be aware of is the coil wiring is a bit different.

I've run a Supercharged 1UZ on an S80 using individual coils. Was straightforward. But no experience with the 3UZ VVTi sorry.

Re: lexus 3uz engine
Alex, you say its fairly simple? but my understanding of the VVT-I system is that, it is not simple. As being that the "I" stands for intelligence, making the system not just a switch on switch off system as per the likes of the early Vtec or the VVt systems.
or am I reading to much into it and completely miss understanding how it works :/

Re: lexus 3uz engine
It's continuously variable, not simple on off. However, it's just a standard Denso type system, which is quite common. Set up isn't massively complicated, but optimising all the camshafts will take time.
If I remember correctly, all four are variable, so you'll need an S100.
