CPS position vs ignition

Post by gigford »

Hi,

i am just in the first steps starting a cosworth yb turbo engine, S60 ecu.

Engine runs, checking the ignition with a conventional timing light. Timing set at 16 BTDC in the igniton map at idle rpms. The light shows the timing around 30.
If i had put 235 deg in the sensor position earlier and reduce that number to 220 it will retard my timing by 15 deg?

thanks

crank trigger ?

what ignition system are you using ?

ideally baseline timing at a fixed 0deg, that removes any chance of error from wasted spark and dialback lights.

Also verify at say 10deg and 20deg, and at a couple of different rpm's

And just change the numbers and watch what way they need to go to get the end result you want

Yes, crank trigger only, no cam sensor. Wasted spark.

Then as per instructions, depending on light etc and numbers used, timing on a light can appear double actual.

Do the tests I listed.
