Hello guys,
It the first time setting up a 6cyl engine with vvt. We installed the S80 one for advanced 6cyl engines as Alan from dta suggest us.
My problem is that I cannot set up the camshaft control and make it work
Is there anyone here that is experienced with the M50 single vanos and it's setting
on DTA to make it work proper?
Regards,
Fotis

Fotis what issues are you having. I personally have an M50 non vanos, but setting up the vanos is relatively straight forward.

I did it and works fine.
I set the camshaft control ON
Seq. injection ON
Coil per plug ON
I installed the cam control at AUX4 switcher and enable it at 2000RPM and deactivate it at 4500RPM
I need a dynoplot to finalize the camshaft timing for max performance.
All good

Awesome good job - please share your map once you get it tuned! We need more BMW maps with real timing numbers, etc.

of course I will when I finisht it
I will send it also to Alan from DTA as he couldn't help me because they didn't done any, yet!
M50 is quite different from the S50 sample that DTA has

Awesome! I am building an S52 (3.0L though, small pistons) with single vanos so that will be helpful.hammersword wrote:of course I will when I finisht it

The S50 DTA has is a DVANOS motor I think. The S50B30 or S50B32.

That's correct guys. Both maps are for euro S50B30 and S50B32. Closer to the S54B32 (E46 M3) than any North American market M5X/S5X variant so certainly not usable as far as mapping is concerned...Jon K wrote: The S50 DTA has is a DVANOS motor I think. The S50B30 or S50B32.

The vanos on M50 is an ON/OFF valve and not fully variable. It is there only for some low mid torque.
S50 is fully variable I believe, correct?

I don't know if the S50 is variable but I know its VANOS on both cams.hammersword wrote:The vanos on M50 is an ON/OFF valve and not fully variable. It is there only for some low mid torque.

The M50TU vanos actually shows good gains when help advanced to much higher RPM than factory. At least on turbo cars.

S50B30 euro spec is fully variable on intake only.hammersword wrote:The vanos on M50 is an ON/OFF valve and not fully variable. It is there only for some low mid torque.

S50B32 euro spec is fully variable on both cams.
M50/M52 and S50/S52 US spec is 2 stage on intake only (kinda like the Honda VTEC) up until the TU engines appeared, 1999-2000 I think.
M52TU and then M54 are fully variable but much slower at varying/less angle than the Motorsport versions. Also more "tuned" for mid range torque.
