E48exp issue
Was attempting to get car roughly mapped but am finding it near impossible.
It's a e48exp.
When I turn on the ignition it will connect to the ECU and I can unlock and make changes.
However I start the car and it just keeps freezing on my lap top its the 2nd lap I have tried.
I then have to shut the programming and reboot the lap top or it says the comments port is already in use!
Also on the occasion that it doesn't freeze if I go onto the real time mapping screen I don't see either the fuel or the ignition maps , so I don't even now which site it's running in :c
Is there a update require etc or is it something I am doing wrong?
I have cable with button -not sure what the button is for either?
Any help would be appreciated thanks Scott

Re: E48exp issue
most likely a problem with your USB to RS232 converter, some see and what I experienced.

Re: E48exp issue
What is the laptop, windows version etc and are you using serial or a USB adaptor of some sort ?
As above, almost all comms problems are down to the adaptors used. They are a PITA.
If the cable is new, the button may be for flashing the newer S series, it will serve no function for the older E48

Re: E48exp issue
IBM thinkpad
Windows xp
Think the USB adaptor is aten but not sure as no name on it
How can I tell if the firmware is up to date on the e48
The DTA again is the latest version
The USB convertor work well on a omex I have
The main DTA cable though looks pretty old are these available?

Re: E48exp issue
end user cannot change firmware on the old ecu's, it's return to DTA only...if upgrades even exist anymore.
Cables are readily available....age shouldnt matter, they all work the same.
USB converters are troublesome...there's no generic they will work for everything just because they work on other software.

Re: E48exp issue
Ok thanks
Checked with Alex -firmware must be ok as it communicates.
Going to try another usb convertor first -hopefully this will sort
thanks

Re: E48exp issue
update
Powered the ecu up off the car using transformer
All seemed to work ok no freezing or lap top crash.
Went onto the real time mapping and found the ignition and fuel grids were hidden behind the lambda (were minimised to tiny size)
I am thinking now that it It might be the cranking voltage dropping too low and causing the issue or possibly one of the cables ?
regards
Scott

Re: E48exp issue
So you can access the ecu to make any changes etc when the engine is off ?
What is battery voltage dropping to ? Why not just get a new battery, jump leads booster pack, whatever and test again ?

Re: E48exp issue
I need to check the voltage drop next time I try -its not my car so not at mine (brothers)
Yes I could make alterations with the engine off.
Reason why I think it could be voltage drop is the last couple of adjustments I made it didn't crash and I had it connected to battery charger...
I'll try again next week with differant cable.
cheers

Re: E48exp issue
new usb convertor cable sorted the laptop issue!
same make of cable....
Have removed the cheap injectors and fitted some of these instead
50lb delphi 17113738
Now runs a lot better and tickover properly!
cheers
