Re: DTAswin to ECU connection problems
quite possibly, though they are generally cheap anyway. it may be an issue if you have 64bit OS also perhaps.

possibly. there is no such thing as a free lunch.
are you 32 or 64 bit? have you got the driver to match?
run the installer as admin first just in case... right click, run as admin...yes on the warning box(es)...
my backup adapter, also a prolific is on driver:
12/03/2010
3.3.11.152
that i got from prolific's site. that's working on a 32bit 7 laptop.
checked. same driver also works in 64 so that's ok anyways.

Re: DTAswin to ECU connection problems
I've had no problems with genuine Prolific based serial adapters running DTA software on Windows 7 32 or 64 bit both on a PC and running under Parallels on Mac.
I have about four different adapters from different manufacturers and I always make sure they come with a money back guarantee or they are from a reputable supplier.
For the amount of time you loose to save a few dollars or pounds it is simply not worth the frustration.

Re: DTAswin to ECU connection problems
Still no joy. I think the only option is to buy another adapter from a more reputable seller.
This one look ok?

Re: DTAswin to ECU connection problems
no idea. it looks ok. but i bet your old one looks ok too.
you must ask the retailer:
"do both the device and the driver support the MSComm.Input method as well as MSComm.ReadFile"
^this is what dtaswin requires
get back on to mefmotorsport - he may be able to supply you with what you need and get him to read *this* post...
...and then as stevie says...get trolling ebay for a geriatric laptop with a *real* port on........

Re: DTAswin to ECU connection problems
I wish I had read this two days ago. I bought the adapter above, installed ok etc but I still get the 8020 error.

I have USB serial adaptors in stock that WORK! Same one that DTA sell but a bit cheaper!
