Hi there!
I have a very strange firing problem now with my car.
It just wont start any more.. i does som firing but doesnt start. And when we checked with a ignition lamp when i cranked on the starter and the firing does only do 3-6 sparks at time, and then it stops for a few sekunds and then does 3-6 sparks again. it's really strange
The crankshaft osciliskop looks fine, and every thing in de map looks good. and when we do firing tes in test functions, it firies just fine.
Im running 1jz-gte with S80 pro and VAG 715F coils.
The voltage is between 10-11 volt all the time while cranking.
Any suggestions of what it might be?
Sorry for my bad english

I wouldn't trust the timing light. Take out the plugs, connect them to the coils and crank the engine to see if there are consistent sparks. Then make sure fuel is been injected to eliminate pump failure or filter blockage.

I did that, and its the same thing, the spark does only come sometimes, on all coils.
And the fuel is okey pump running, injectors opens, and my afr on cranking is good
I should say that sometimes the engines firies up and then runs perfectly. but not to often. maybe in 1 of 20 crankings .

Hrm. Seems like a setting issue or sensor issue.
What type of sensors are used for crank wheel and cam wheel?
Consider pulling all coils and using a spark plug and the output test modes to test fire the coils without an RPM based signal.

i have done a output test with the coils out and a spark plugg in, and it works fine. Got a god spark at all the coils al the time.
What sensor error could it be in that case? the crank shaft oscilioskope looks good

Re: Strange firing problem s80
I've seen issues with the crank and or cam working fine with the engine cranking, but EMI/RFI causes it to lose sync.
Are your cables shielded?
What is your wheel trigger pattern? What is your sensor types? How are they wired? Usually long cranking times is due to the engine not syncing.
Open this display and try to start the car:
Where my display says "engine running" you will see "Engine turning" "Syncing" etc.
If you see "syncing" and not "engine synced, starting" or whatever, then you know it's a sensor/syncing issue.

Crank trigger only or are you running sequential ?

Stevie:
Ím running sequential and got a cam trigger to, it's 1jz-gte orginal.
Jon-k:
Got that window open all the time, And it's syncs right after i start cranking and it says"Attempting to start" or somthing like that. And cam errors is just a couple, not high at all.
I got it all wired exactly as its says in the wiring diagram. and its 36-2 on crank wheel, and 1 on cam.
In the beginning, The engine started all the time.
the problem came just a day ago.

Re: Strange firing problem s80
It's got to be a bad sensor then. I literally had a similar issue - dyno'd the car and drove for 2 years. One day it was hard to start in a parking lot.
