Hello,
I have seen on DTAs website, that it is obviously possible to connect the ECU by CAN to aviod problems with USB to COM adapters. There a CAN to USB adapter (from Systec) is shown.
Does anyone already has tried this?
I have already asked Andrew (roverdose), but he doesn't know if this works. The S-series manual just talked about a connection of a datalogger or dash display by CAN.
Thanks for your answers, cheers
Stefan

Re: ECU connection by CAN
I asked years ago about this, they told me it was a slower connection than serial.....so I gave up on that one.
Downloading datalogs takes forever via serial, so something even slower wasnt going to happen !!
but apparently you can connect the laptop this way.

Hello Stevie,
thanks, then I will try. I've found on new Systec CAN adaptor on ebay for less than 20 Euros. So this experiment is not very expensive....
I will post findings on that topic..
Cheers

Re: ECU connection by CAN
Hey,
I try SysTec during the weekend and its working well .
- Faster than serial.
- Always stable connection.
- Now i can use 10m or longer CAN cable (inside motorhome to car)
- And downloading datalogs is faster!!
- Now i can program both (DTA,IQAN) in same CAN cable !!
Computer was Samsung Smart PC Win 8 32 Bit (Tablet)

Hello Kaitsu66,
now I have my Systec Adapter. Could you please tell me something about settings?
Do I have to select in DTASwin software, how I would like to communicate with DTA ECU?
Or is it just Plug&Play??
Thanks for your answer

Hello
Sorry late answer.
first download CAN drivers from DTA and then its just Plug/Play DTASwin software detect CAN connection automatically and pinout for can
adapter is in the attachment you only need Can-H,Can-L connected .
Parker IQAN is vehicle control system i have MDL2 display and 2 expansion modules (XT2 ,XS2) http://www.parker.com/portal/site/PARKE ... a71dacRCRD

Re: ECU connection by CAN
This is getting even more interesting !
Where did you buy the Systec ? Any places Ive seen it, are still as expensive as DTA ?
And that display, how much is it ? Does it work on the CAN connection as well ?

Found that one myself, makes the DTA one look cheap ! lolMr Drew wrote:The only price I could find online...... brace yourself!stevieturbo wrote: And that display, how much is it ? Does it work on the CAN connection as well ?

Think in general we need more info on CAN though.
So it seems it works and does offer a faster connection, and perhaps more reliable for those with no serial port. All good.
But what about interaction with other devices ? Can it be connected to multiple devices at the same time ? ie a dash display and the laptop for Swin ?
And surely that display cant cost £4k !!!!!
As for the Systec adaptor. I can find it on US Amazon and a few other places, but it's around 200 euro ? $240 in the US ?
But no UK sellers, and nowhere as cheap as the thread starter seemed to suggest ?
