DTA E48 firmware update
Hello everybody,
I am new to the DTA community and i have got a couple of questions. I hope you can help me
I have got an E48 and i want to upgrade the firmware.
I downloaded the .bin file from the website and i noticed that the EPROM used on the ecu is the M27C256B. I can't find one (only from ebay) and i have at my hands a similar one (CMOS type) from SST 27SF512.
On a comparison table that i found it gives that they are similar (differing on the erasing part) and the capacity.
After going through the datasheets though i found some differences especially on the read access time (the SST is slower).
Do you think it will match the needs of the ecu? (I contacted DTA and said they do not know this type of microcontroller).
Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
I understand that the E48 needs a physical chip change to upgrade, development has stopped on this older type of ecu and you can't get upgrades from the DTA web site?, I see you can downloaded firmware for the old series as recently as 2011. Have you asked DTA for the latest chip for the E48 as I think this is the only thing you can do.
What particular features are you after?

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
I always thought this was a chip change too.
Unless somehow you can reprogram the chip with a EEPROM or something ?
Definitely contact DTA about it

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
Thank you for the responses!
I contacted DTA and said that they are not aware if this type of EPROM meets the requirements
It is not that I am after any particular set of improvements, but i guess always a new firmware version is better than the previous one in terms of speed etc.
I will have them sent me a new plug and pins maybe i can ask them for an EPROM with the new firmware.

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
the E48 firmware has disappeared from the website so I assume this was some error that it was there any way.

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
So you suggest that I do not upgrade it?
Truth be told, it was there since 2011..

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
And is there a reason you think you need to upgrade it ?

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
Maybe the issue I am facing with the pot box is affected by that.stevieturbo wrote:And is there a reason you think you need to upgrade it ?
That is just an assumption though.
I just try to figure out what is wrong with my ecu I do not want to give a hard time on anybody.
Best Regards

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
I would say it is unlikely
The only real issue's Ive seen people come across....is where a software version is miles apart from a firmware version. Then odd things have happened.
But generally they just always work.
However after recent posts about some "ignition only" E48's that people have modified to fuel and ignition....
Perhaps your unit falls into that category ? So whilst some features work, not all of them. So perhaps the internal differences you have noted are the problem.
I guess if you think there is an actual problem,

Re: DTA E48 firmware update
I think that you can check the ecu your self. Connect a say 2.2k ohm pot to the ecu throttle input and check you get the full range in the set tps window, also make sure that the 5v output is 5v. I suspect there is an issue with the pot that you are trying to use not having the right range?
