have read through a few threads on here but massively confused still, so looking for help...
i bought and fitted the s40 pro ecu all wired up to the vw aircooled engine.
I downloaded the dta Swin version 66.1 onto my laptop, iv got both the pin ended cables and a usb converter cable-neither apparently work, iv also downloaded the prolific converter programme thing and tried changing the ports numbers to 1,2,3.. trough it, still no response.
at a loss to what to do next, both cables were from maplin and not too cheap.
my laptop is saying most of the ports are in use, I have no idea how/why they are!
any ideas would be greatly appreciated, engine runs ok just looking to set up the cold start!

Re: s40 usb/comm
100% foolproof solution....buy a laptop with a serial port.
You need to configure the USB adaptor so it behaves as COM1-4 in order for the DTA program to be able to see it.
Control Panel, System, Device Manager, COM Ports etc

Re: s40 usb/comm
a normal 9pin cable wont be the same pins as the dta cable.split58 wrote:both cables were from maplin and not too cheap.

Re: s40 usb/comm
You need to ensure that pins 1 to 5 are connected straight through from the 9 way to the 15 way connector

Re: s40 usb/comm
then your cable is not correct. Comms via serial port is usually pretty foolproofsplit58 wrote:thankyou for replies...the laptop does have a serial port but wont connect through that either..

I've only just noticed this thread so you've probably sorted the problem out by now. If not, you need this:

All your worries should then be over!
