Hi,
After logging a track session and looking at the logfile I noticed that the RPM signal spiked to 0 RPM every few seconds or more.
Spikes doesn't seem to relate to the RPM signal value or any other signal. It even happens on constant throttle/RPM.
I logged about 6 channels at 10Hz contineously as per DTA settings.
What could be the cause here? Any ideas?
Thanks,
René

Re: Logging spikes
Spike would indicate a rise in rpm ? You are suggesting it drops to zero ?
Is this purely something you see on logging, or are you feeling anything happen with the engine ?
If rpm drops to zero on a log, IMO you've lost the crank signal momentarily, so you should feel this.

Re: Logging spikes
No, it is just in the logging I can't feel it because it would be impossible for the engine to drop to zero RPM for only a few tenths of a second and then back to 8000.
It's something to do with the logging itself. Maybe software???

It isnt something Ive ever seen happen, so cant comment.Releeuw45 wrote:No, it is just in the logging I can't feel it because it would be impossible for the engine to drop to zero RPM for only a few tenths of a second and then back to 8000.

And to add further complication, I think logging stops if crank rotation stops ?
But cannot see any reason that if the ecu has stored it in a log, it must be happening.
ie dodgy crank sensor or trigger, or interference causing it.
Under what circumstances does it happen ?
Re: Logging spikes
This happens if crank signal is not clean. If you log crank errors, you'll see that error increase same time.
I've sometimes seen this too.

Re: Logging spikes
I did not yet have the CRK and CAM sensor rewired width shielded cable because there was no need. This is something I'm going to do this winter. Not sure it will solve the problem, but it sounds realistic that interference is messing op the signal to log (resulting in 0 ) without influence on engine running. I'll put a scope on it and see how much noise i can see on both sensor signals. I already noticed that I can see the ignition spikes on the cam sensor signal.

Re: Logging spikes
first things first... make first proper loom before debugging anything further.
Shielded wire is a must for all rotation sensors.

Re: Logging spikes
Do you have the ecu case earthed ? Although back when the S80 first came out and I had problems, they were felt more than logged.
