coil problem
Hello,
still busy converting my flat 4vw engine to efi.
Using the s80 and aem smartcoils (these ones http://www.aemelectronics.com/products/ ... smart-coil )
I keep having the fuse for the 12v to the coils being blown.
In the past this wasn't a problem, only when i started to work with the pc this problem started.
Saw this topic and suspecting something like this:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1445
One time I connected 1 coil at a time to see if the fuse would still blow and them the coils came really hot (hopping there arn't broke).
This is the how the coils are wired
hope some one can help my in the right way.

Re: coil problem
Those are amplified coils.
Have you ticked the Amplified Coils tick box in the ECU?

Re: coil problem
You have to tick Amplified Coils before you communicate with ecu otherwise you will burn coils anyway

The fuse should have saved them.

Re: coil problem
Explain your diagram ( and picture is very small/low res )
What size fuse for power ?
A - looks ok.
B - looks ok
C - looks ok
D - looks like you're wrote 31/ground ? What does the 31 refer to ?
E - looks ok depending on fuse size.
With dwell at only 3ms, these coils will not draw a lot of current anyway.

Re: coil problem
Hi,
31 is ground
First it was a 15amp fuse, then a 20amp. But same result
Will try to see if i can ipload it in better resolution.

Re: coil problem
Again...what do you mean 31 is ground ?
Pin 31 on a DTA power connector is +12v live.

Re: coil problem
Hi, its a mather of wrong explanation.
It’s ground (number 31 in bosch code)
Pin is connected with the body.
