Re: Motec Universal Crimper
No, it's nothing like what is required. I have one of those. They are for normal flat blade style.
The DTA/Motec/whatever requires a finished round crimp. Ive no doubt there are tools out there, it's just finding the right one.

Cheers Stevie, saved me buying the wrong ones. Bit having a look around some more and found this on CPC, I'm presuming these are better suited? http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/1402-d-subop ... -225d.html

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
Those look too large, esp on the open/wire lead end. I'd suggest getting hold of of the guys at msel.co.nz and see what they can do, that's where I got mine. Assuming they'll ship overseas and it's cost effective.
They are crimpers designed for something else, but a washer under the guide makes them perfect spacing (would understand if you saw them) and works perfect every time. I believe msel have different ones now also but haven't seen them - think they said that in a phone call a while ago.
Or I can find out, put my mark-up on them and sell them to you

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
Too difficult to tell. If the image is correct it does not produce a round crimp though. And no idea what size the finished piece is.Bollah wrote:Cheers Stevie, saved me buying the wrong ones. I find it amazing that given how common these damn crimps are, crimp tools should be available everywhere !
Looked on that Msel website. Dont see any crimp tools at all ?
Some googling reveals these. Contact them to ensure the item is right first though;. But Motec, Haltech, DTA and many other ecu's use these same ecu plugs/pins these days

Some interesting looking ones here.

Looks like an ebay seller selling them. Maybe he can confirm

Another guy makes reference to these being suitable
http://www.king-cart.com/cgi-bin/cart.c ... e=HWS16166
or definitely the right tool. Their price isnt too bad either compared to some

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
And in my searching, a good thread on the crimp/solder debate.

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
Many thanks for the links and advise there Stevieturbo. It looks like I'll end up ordered a crimper from the states, I can't justify spending silly money on a crimper that I'm only going to use for half a dozen pins to allow me to wire in the wideband sensor, gearbox sensor and undriven wheel speed.
BTW, I take it you have seen the video I filmed of you at TOTB8 on youtube?

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
Some of the crimpers above arent expensive. It's just knowing whether they are suitable or not.
As much as it isnt the correct way, I just squished mine with pliers and soldered them. Although some of them required a good shove to get into the housing afterwards lol
I think I removed the weatherproof seal to make it easier. My ecu will never be exposed to a damp environment so dont need it anyway

I've got one of those and it's fairly crap, but I stick with it for some reason.

Re: Motec Universal Crimper
Yea, it's ok for normal non-insulated terminals that require that crimper. Just ok though.
But nothing like the ecu connector ones.
of all of the cheapish ones, these look very possible.
