Is it possible to run a 3 cylinder engine with coil on plug without a cam sensor

Thanks Dave

Yes, so long as you have crank sensor with a gap. and minimum of S60 and I think equal fire engine, i.e 120 deg crank

I'm guessing - set it up as a 6 cylinder with 3 coils running wasted spark?

Just tried it on the software as 3 cyl and it tells you you need COP, fine. But you mustn't say yes to COP in 'COP settings' a bit contradictory but I'm sure it will work fine.

Thanks for the replies .If I set the number of cylinders to 3 it only fires coil output 1 cylinder 1
If I set number of cylinders to 6 it fires 1 ,2 and 3 and starts

It does the same thing on a 5 cylinder engine!

Set it to 10 cylinder engine and it'll run wasted spark without a cam sensor but if you say its a 5 cylinder and try to run it wasted it won't work!

Of course it won't! To run wasted, the stated cylinder count has to be divisible by two.

If running the engine on a config setup which appears incorrect...I'd be checking ignition timing is correct on every cylinder. Just incase it runs...but is not actually running 100% correctly.

Why? The coil is just firing twice per cycle, 180 deg apart - the timing is either correct or it isn't - if the tooth gap angle is wrong then timing will still be wrong, just twice as often LOL!
