Sounds like you may be running "smart" coils then...? Smart coils usually have between 4 and 5 wires (12V, trigger, sensor grnd, batt grnd and sometimes an extra cylinder head grnd) where as "dumb" coils usually only have 3 (12V, trigger and grnd). Post a pin out of your coils so we can see.
3000ms is still well within normal dwell times for both smart and dumb coils though.

Prob sorted spoke to mapper, had to tick a box in engine settings, something to do with external coil amps I think ? Left workshop now and can't remember exactly what it was but ran and idled well with no hot packs ! Also reduced dwell setting to 2400 , thanks for the advice everyone

Very lucky you didnt damage both the coils themselves and the coil drivers inside the ecu !

I kept fuse out as I knew there wasn't something quite right , anyhow it's sorted now , just it should have been right to start with !

This is why it is essential to know what parts you have, how they work, and how the ecu needs to be configured.

Taking maps of another persons setup and blindly using them always carries risks.

Hi lee.just got dtà §60 myself and running a big turbo 1, 8t.can I ask where you got your map from?goingto need one to start mine and im running cop.dont wish to have the same problem

Bill brockbank at badger 5 is the man to speak to , he is a vag 1.8t guru and good with dta , search badger 5 mate
