It does sound like a comms issue, First of all check out the intergrety your serial cable, ie it should have continuity from pins 1-5 at both ends. Use an ohm meter.

Another likely problem is your serial-usb adapter, sometimes Windows will automatically find and install the latest driver, this feature must be disabled as it will be the wrong driver. Uninstall the serial adaptor and then re-install the correct driver as per the instructions on the DTAfast website.

Then try again.

All cables meter out good, but just to make sure I have ordered another set of cables and a new 15 to 9 pin adaptor should be here this week some time.

I have two USB adaptor, one new and one old. both prolific chip sets. Checked driver numbers on the computer against DTA list of drivers and all good there. Removed drivers from computer and downloaded new drivers from DTA.

Still having same problem as before

Ecu not responding. about 1/4 of the way thought starting up the program
Then
Map not successful transferred

For tuning I'd seriously look into getting an older laptop, XP etc and ideally with a serial port.

That will guarantee reliable comms.

I was lucky enough I used a cheap USB adaptor with my Acer laptop and it worked, but I always have access to an old laptop with serial.

I know some guys have success with W7 etc, but I wouldnt even entertain upgrading and risking it not working.

When I had another laptop, I had better success with PCMCIA type adaptors rather than USB

I am now a happy boy. new leads turned up today.
Used them and all is now good connecting every time.
There must be something funny with the old lead. As I have said it was working then just stopped.
Anyway I would just like to say thank you to all that helped
